Hello, my
name is Joey Holder and I have been raising goats since 1985.
A move to the country led to the inevitable 'get a few
goats to clean this place up'.
As anyone
who has had goats knows, they are one of the most personable forms
of livestock. These few goats grew into a commercial herd of
over 100 goats. With this many, I learned, in a short time,
things that a person with only a few goats might not learn in a
lifetime. I've also had a lot of help from my 'goat buddies',
further shortening my learning curve.
In 2000, I
purchased my first Boer billy to cross over my brush goats. I
grew to love the color and build of this meat goat breed. We
now have a fullblood herd based on a mix of well known blood lines.
We breed and cull using South African breed standards as a
guideline, as well as still maintaining our commercial herd.
Along with
my wife, Becky, and three sons, we started our goat show endeavor in
2002. We've met many great people and have made many new
friends showing Boers. This endeavor is a family affair that
has taught my sons a lot about responsibility and the facts of life
(grin).
Feel free
to contact me for any questions about my web page or to just talk
goats.
